Electing A Pope (file folder game)- The idea is to answer questions about electing a pope so you can move your stones around the board. The goal is to move each stone along the 24-square path from the beginning to the end and remove the stone from the board. If the stone of one player lands on a square occupied by the stone of the opponent, the opponent’s stone is removed from the board and must start again. If a player has two or more pieces on a space the pieces on it cannot be captured. An exact throw is needed to remove a piece from the board. The winner is the player who removes all their stones from the board first.

Church Potluck Recipe: Chili

At home we LOVE chili on a cold winter day and it is great at Church Potluck. You can fix it to warm everyone up and to share with the congregation along with some hot buttered corn bread (Jiffy corn muffin mix).

Chili

*I make this the day before and in the morning I warm it up in the microwave and put it in my crock pot on LOW to keep it warm. I take the crock pot with us and plug it in my CCD classroom and go to Mass. After CCD I just take it down to the Fellowship Hall and plug it in there. I warm the cornbread up in a microwave and place it on the table next to the crock pot.

You’ll Need:

1 Carroll Shelby’s Chili Kit
2 pounds ground beef (I use 1 pound of ground beef and 1 pound of Jimmy Dean HOT roll sausage)
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
2 8 oz. cans water

*I double this recipe below to make a lot.

Cooking Instructions:

Brown 2 pounds ground beef in large pot. Drain fat. Add tomato sauce, water, spice packet and salt packet (optional). To Fix It Mild, omit cayenne pepper. To Fix It Hot, stir in entire cayenne pepper packet (I fix it HOT). Stir. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. For thicker chili, mix masa flour packet with 1/3 cup water. Stir in and let simmer for 5 minutes.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Makes: Six 8 oz servings.

Create Your Own

Create your own chili by adding any one or more of the following suggestions:

• Chopped onion or green peppers when browning ground beef.
• Omit 1 of the 8 oz. cans of water and add one 14 oz. can of diced tomatoes.
• 15 oz can of kidney or pinto beans during the last 5 minutes of cooking (I add 2 cans).
• Top off your creation with shredded cheese, sour cream or diced tomatoes.
• Serve chili on top of some white rice.

water in 6 large container (bucket will do)
6 empty jars
red food coloring
6 chairs

Divide the class into 6 equal teams and have them line up behind a chair with a bucket of water sitting on it. Across the room have an empty jar with food coloring inside it for each team. At your signal the first person in the team scoops up some water from their bucket and carries it over and pours it in their jar, returns to his line and hands the plastic cup to the second player. The first player then goes to the end of the line. The second player then repeats what the first player did. (Demonstrate what you want the children to do). Play is continued until the jar is full of wine.

Church Potluck Recipe: Chocolate Chip Cheesecake

This is an easy cheesecake recipe that everyone enjoys!

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup butter, melted
3 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon all-purpose flour

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Mix graham cracker crumbs, sugar, butter and cocoa. Press onto bottom and up the sides of a 9 inch springform pan. Set crust aside. Beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk; beat well. Add vanilla and eggs, and beat on medium speed until smooth. Toss 1/3 of the miniature chocolate chips with the 1 teaspoon flour to coat (this keeps them from sinking to the bottom of the cake). Mix into cheese mixture. Pour into prepared crust. Sprinkle top with remaining chocolate chips. Bake at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) for 1 hour. Turn off oven (do not open oven door) and leave the cake in the oven to cool in the oven for another hour. Remove from oven and cool completely. Refrigerate before removing sides of pan. Keep cake refrigerated until time to serve.

Crafty Crafters: Jesus in the Temple Toy/Craft

So how crafty are you?

What is your favorite religious craft you make for the Bible story “Jesus in the Temple?

Here is a craft I make with my students using a laundry detergent cap:

Introduce craft: When Jesus was a little boy, where did he get his toys? (They made them.) We are going to make us a toy to play with.

Make a hole near the top of the rim using a drill prior to class. Cut twine to about 2 feet long. Have students tie one end of the twine to the lid through the hole you just drilled. On the other end of the twine tie a large bead to it (2 beads if they are small).

To play- Hold the cup letting the string hang down. Swing the bead up and try to catch it inside the cup. For competitive play, whoever gets the most catches out of 10 or 20 tries wins.

Please comment so I can add the link to your blog to this post. We would love to see what you do!
