Seasons of the Liturgical Year Board Game
This game is free, however it is only to be used for classroom and personal use. It may not be published on any websites or other electronic media, or distributed in newsletters, bulletins, or any other form or sold for profit. Reproduction or retransmission of any materials, in whole or in part, in any manner, is not permitted. All graphics/images/clipart etc. used on this activity are not my own and are from various internet sources.
This game is based on the game Feast Day!
*You can play this game individually or in teams.
Object: Collect tokens by moving around the game board and answering questions about the Church’s liturgical season. The player with the most tokens at the end of the game, wins.
Materials Needed:
Game Board
Game markers
1 die
Tokens
300 Question Cards: 30 Advent, 20 Christmas, 60 Lent, 20 Triduum, 50 Easter, 120 Ordinary Time (store in individual Ziploc bags when not in use)
*Playing pieces can be coins, colored buttons, game pieces from other games, fish rocks for the bottom of aquariums, craft foam cut into shapes, glass rocks for vases, etc. You can paint small objects such as rocks, small plastic tops or caps, etc. You can also buy pawns at game stores.
How To Play:
1. Sort the Question Cards into 6 stacks: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, Triduum, and Easter. Place the cards question side down in small baskets near the game board.
2. Players select a game marker and place it on the Christ the King space located before the season of Advent.
3. Each player rolls the die and the player with the lowest number goes first.
4. Players take turns rolling the die and moving clockwise the number of spaces on the die. 5. The spaces on the board are colored to reflect the liturgical seasons: Advent (violet), Christmas (white), Ordinary Time (green), Lent (violet), Triduum (red), and Easter (white). Once a player lands on a space, the player to their right draws a card from the matching season card pile and asks the player a question about feast days as well as important facts about the teachings of the Church that are woven through the liturgical year.
6. It the player answers correctly, they receive a token. All cards must be returned to the bottom of the stack after use.
7. If the player answers incorrectly, they do not receive a token and roll the die on their next turn.
8. If a player rolls a 6 with one die or 6 with a combination of dice (2) they may take a token from any player they choose.
Optional Game Play:
• Use dice (2) to make travel through the board game faster.
• When a player answers correctly, they can slide to the next season and wait for their next turn.
How to Win:
1. The first player who travels through the entire game board and lands on the Christ the King space (you do not have to roll the exact number) chooses the season which they would like to answer a question.
2. If an incorrect answer is given, the player remains on the Christ the King space and will have another chance on their next turn.
3. If a correct answer is given, they receive a token. The game ends and all the players count their tokens.
4. The player with the most tokens wins the game.
Preparation:
Directions- Print out Directions.
Game Board- Print out Game Board, trim, assemble, and glue on a piece of cardboard. Laminate or cover Game Board with clear contact paper to make it last.
Tokens- Use these Tokens or make your own. Print out several pages of Tokens on card stock. Cut out Tokens. Laminate or cover with clear contact paper to make them last.
Question Cards- Use these cards or make your own. Print out Question Cards. Be sure to print the corresponding liturgical season on the back of each card. Use only the cards that reflect your student’s abilities. Laminate or cover with clear contact paper to make them last.
*Use the Question Cards that are provided or make your own. You can also make cards specific to what you have been learning in your classroom. You can even have the students make cards for the opposing team. There are 300 Question Cards posted for you to choose from. Introduce game: How were lepers treated during Biblical times?
jesuswalk.com- The Jesus Walk Bible Studies Series
Leprosy in Biblical times was a terrible thing. We're not exactly sure what Biblical leprosy was. While it may have described what is known today as "Hansen's Disease," the word probably included other skin diseases, as well. Whatever it was, once a person caught it, it was considered incurable, and those diagnosed with leprosy were banned from society.
"The person with such an infectious disease must wear torn clothes, let his hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of his face and cry out, 'Unclean! Unclean!' As long as he has the infection he remains unclean. He must live alone; he must live outside the camp" (Leviticus 13:45-46).
While early Israelites didn't operate on the Germ Theory of disease, they understood something about infectious diseases, and those suspected of leprosy were kept isolated until their diagnosis was confirmed (Leviticus 13:5). But the loathing directed at lepers was not merely fear of a disease. Leprosy made a person ritually unclean. To touch a leper defiled a Jew almost as much as touching a dead person. In a sense, leprosy was a sign of God's disfavor.
Later Jewish practice prescribed that while lepers might attend synagogue, they must be the first to enter and last to leave, and must stay in a special compartment to isolate them from the other worshippers. No less than a distance of four cubits (six feet) must be kept from a leper.
To the rabbis, the cure of a leper was as difficult as raising a person from the dead. In all Biblical history only two people had been cured of leprosy -- Miriam, who had leprosy for seven days as a punishment for speaking against Moses' leadership (Numbers 12:9-15), and Naaman, general of the army of Aram, an heathen from Damascus (2 Kings 5). When he obeyed Elijah's instruction to wash seven times in the Jordan River he was healed. Healing a leper had not been done in Israel for seven hundred years, and was thought to be an earmark of the Messianic Age (Luke 7:22), when leprosy would no longer afflict people.
daniellesplace.com- Lots of leper games posted here.
*Scroll down to Lazarus Come Out Game- (just change it to Leper Come Out Game.) Explain to the students that no one wanted to be around lepers and that lepers had to hide from others. Jesus wants us to be kind to everyone so we have to find the leper to help him. Hide the leper under one of the cups, mix them up, and have each student try to find the leper. You can also have each student make their own leper out of a clothespin and give them 3 cups to play the game with each other or at home.
sermons4kids.com- "U" are in JesUs
Make this a game by finding out who can find the most words that have "U" in them
Praise Phrases- When Jesus healed and sent away 10 lepers, only one came back and praised God for His gift of healing. God’s gifts to us bring us joy and cause our thankfulness to overflow. Let’s play a game to give God thanks and praise for all His good gifts. (The Really Big Book of Bible Games, page 187.)
resourceforkidsministry.com- Thankful Pictionary
Supplies: Dry erase board, dry erase markers
Break the class up into teams (or during their small-group time) have each team write out a list of all the things that they are thankful to God for. Then sit them down in front of the dry erase board for a game of Pictionary. Collect the lists and have the teams compete in Pictionary using objects that you choose from the lists.
The games below are free, however they can only to be used for classroom and personal use. They may not be published on any websites or other electronic media, or distributed in newsletters, bulletins, or any other form or sold for profit. Reproduction or retransmission of any materials, in whole or in part, in any manner, is not permitted. All graphics/images/clipart etc. used on these activities are not my own and are from various internet sources.
Who Gave Thanks To God: (card game) Are you thankful to God? Here is a fun game about Biblical characters that are thankful to God.
Introduction for all 3 games that are below- Sometimes, we may find ourselves in a situation where we are uncomfortable. There may come a time in our lives when we find ourselves in a situation that is truly hopeless like the leper. When that happens, where can we turn? How do we find hope in a hopeless situation? We can turn to Jesus. When the situation is hopeless, Jesus is our only hope.
Jesus Is Our Savior File Folder Game- Jesus is our rescuer and offers us a lifeline when we’re trapped in sin. How can we solve the problems in our life? Jesus is our savior and if we follow him, he will show us the way.
Making The Right Decisions Games-
WWJD? (What Would Jesus Do?): Making the right decisions in life is hard to do, but if you let Jesus be your guide and think, “What Would Jesus Do?” it will make it a lot easier.
Moral Dilemmas Card Game: Why do problems come into our life? People face problems every day. Some are harder than others. There are many choices that the person can have to solve his/her problem, but which one is the best? What would Jesus want us to do?

The next time you want to let someone know how much you care for them, remember that we show others we care, not just by sending flowers and gifts, but by showing acts of kindness each and every day -- just like Jesus did.
Good Manners: How Rude!- A fun and exciting way to review what is considered rude behavior in today’s society. The game includes 6 types of interactive game cards: multiple choice, scenario, true/false, reward for good manners, charades, and consequences for bad manners. Players or teams roll the dice and move that many spaces on the board. Whichever color is on the space you land on indicates the color card that will be used. The player to your left will read the card aloud to you and you will try to answer correctly. If you answer your question correctly, you may stay where you are. If you are not correct, everyone says, “How Rude!” and you move back to where you were. The first player or team to get to the “FINISH,” square first is the WINNER!

Continue playing until every child has a chance to be Simon.
Say • Do you remember what happened in the Bible story today when Jesus told the evil spirit, “Be quiet and come out of him”? That’s right! The spirit obeyed Jesus and went away! Who is knocking at my door?
Need: one chair
Directions: The students sit in their own seats while the one who is “It” sits in a chair in front of the room, with his back toward the other students. Someone is chosen by the teacher to go up and knock on the back of the chair or floor. When “It” hears the knocking he asks, "Who is knocking at my door?" The knocker answers in a disguised voice "It is I.” “It” has to guess who the knocker was. The knocker then becomes “It”.
Introduce game: Who are the apostles? What are their names?
applesaucekids.com- Simon Says Meets the Apostles
Simon says meets the Apostles: The idea of this game is just to teach the names of the Apostles. Assign the Name of an Apostle to each kid. Then play Simon says, but only use the Apostle's name when talking to each kid. And tell each kid what Simon says individually. Example: Simon says the Apostle Simon Peter can take one step forward. Only the kid that is Simon Peter can move. The rest of the kids must wait for their turn.
Disciples Memory Game
Preparation: Go to sundayschoolsources.com and print out 2 of the following cards on cardstock (just the pictures of the disciples). Cut out and laminate or cover with clear contact paper to make them last.
21- John, James, Andrew, Peter
38- Thaddaeus, Philip, Bartholomew, James son of Alphaeus
42- Judas Iscariot, Matthew, Thomas, Simon the Zealot
Directions: Cards are laid out in a grid face down, and players take turns flipping pairs of cards over. On each turn, the player will first turn one card over, then a second. If the two cards match, the player scores one point, the two cards are removed from the game, and the player gets another turn. If they do not match, the cards are turned back over.
The object is to match more pairs of cards than the opposing player. (One point is scored for each matched pair, and the player with the highest score after all cards have been matched wins.) When cards are turned over, it is important to remember where they are for when the matching card is turned up later in the game.
Disciples Go Fish Game
Preparation: Print out Disciple Trading Cards (listed above) on card stock. Cut out and laminate or cover with clear contact paper to make them last.
Directions: Go Fish is best for 2-5 players with so few cards to play with. The dealer deals 4 cards to each player. The remaining cards (if any) are placed face down to form a stock. The player to dealer's left starts. A turn consists of asking a specific player for a specific card. For example, if it is my turn I might say: “Mary, do you have James?” The player who asks must already hold one of the requested cards. If the player who was asked (Mary) has the card (James in this case), she must give her card to the player who asked for it. That player then gets another turn and may again ask any player for any card already held by the asker. If the person asked does not have the card, they say “Go fish!” The asker must then draw the top card of the undealt stock. If the drawn card is the card asked for, the asker shows it and gets another turn. If the drawn card is not the card asked for, the asker keeps it, but the turn now passes to the next player. As soon as a player collects a pair of the same disciple, this must be shown and discarded face up. The game continues until either someone has no cards left in their hand or the stock runs out. The winner is the player who then has the most pairs.
