Last Supper File Folder Game- Play individually or in teams and work your way around the game board answering questions about the Last Supper. If you are correct you roll a die and move your marker in your row in any direction you want. If you land on a colored space, you can move one row toward the center with “Last Supper”. Play continues until a team or player reaches “Last Supper”.

Holy Week File Folder Game- The objective of the game is to go through all the days of Holy Week by answering questions about each day. The player spins the spinner and follows the directions. If the player spins “Next Day” they move to the next day. The players must go to each and every day (even if they spin 2 and only need 1, they have to stop at the day). The player cannot pass a day until they answer a question about it. The questions are on a question sheet that is divided into the seven days of Holy Week. The teacher will ask a question from the list about the day that the player landed on. If they are correct, on their next turn they spin the spinner. If the player misses the question, on their next turn they do not spin the spinner, but they must take their turn and answer a question about that day of Holy Week before they can move on. The first person to move around the board and answer questions correctly on all 7 days of Holy Week, wins. Continue playing to find out who comes in second, third, fourth, etc. place.

Journey Through Lent Board Game

This game is free, however it is only to be used for classroom and personal use. It may not be published on any websites or other electronic media, or distributed in newsletters, bulletins, or any other form or sold for profit. Reproduction or retransmission of any materials, in whole or in part, in any manner, is not permitted. All graphics/images/clipart etc. used on this activity are not my own and are from various internet sources.

Here is a neat and easy way to review Lent using a Lenten Calendar. Just print out a Lenten Calendar below that is in color or black and white. Color the calendar if it is not already done.

catholicicing.com- Printable Lenten Calendar for Kids
This is my Printable Lenten Calendar for Kids. It’s free for everyone to print! This year, I’m offering it in black and white, in color, and also as a blank page so you can fill in any language! I have also updated the file to include Lenten calendars that readers have submitted in different languages.

zephyrhillblog.com- FREE Printable Calendars for Lent and Easter

Directions for game: You can play this game individually or in teams. The objective of the game is to get to Easter Sunday first by answering questions about Lent. Place 2 small baskets on the table to put question cards in. Put the question cards in one basket (the other basket will be for discards). Place your markers on "Ash Wednesday”. Each player throws a die (1) or the first players of both teams throw a die (1) to decide who starts the game. The player with the highest throw starts. The opponents make their moves by turns. To make a possible move you must answer a question (the other player on their right draws a card and reads you the question). On each card is a question about Lent. If you are correct, you roll the die. If you do not answer the question correctly, your turn is over. The players take turns answering questions correctly to throw the die and move from space to space according to the throw count. The first player to Easter Sunday is the winner.

*Use the Question Cards that are provided or make your own. You can also make cards specific to what you have been learning in your classroom. You can even have the students make cards for the opposing team. There are 100 Question Cards posted for you to choose from. Note: Please take in consideration that I am just a Mom and I'm providing these question cards to the best of my abilities. I tried to make them as accurate as possible, but I know I probably made a few mistakes and it was not intentional.

Lentopoly Game

I saw this game online by Michelle, Marnie, and Minette and thought it was so neat! It looked like so much fun and the kids would really enjoy it! Such a great learning tool for Lent too! The game is not posted online, but I got permission from them to expand upon it and post for others to use for free.

Lentopoly is a game that is meant to incorporate the 3 aspects of Lent: prayer, fasting & almsgiving. By doing the charitable acts each day the child “earns” tokens (nails, pennies, beans, etc.). You can have a container full of tokens and each child has their own jar to put their ‘earned’ tokens into each day. On Easter the tokens are replaced with jelly beans or other candy/item of your choice. Parents can play too! If you decide to use money, you should decide what organization will get your money on Easter – your parish, pro-life group, rice bowl, etc.

Everyone begins on the space marked “GO.” Each day of Lent, roll the dice & move the amount shown. If you complete the task indicated on the space, you receive a token. Whenever you pass or land on “GO” you receive 2 tokens. If you land on an “Extra Blessing” space & complete the task on the card you draw, you receive 2 tokens. If you land on an “Extra Sacrifice” space & complete the task on the card you draw, you receive 4 tokens. If you do not complete the task, you do not receive any tokens. Play the game each day from Ash Wednesday through Holy Saturday (you do not have to play on Sundays). On Easter, everyone wins!

This game is free, however it is only to be used for classroom and personal use. It may not be published on any websites or other electronic media, or distributed in newsletters, bulletins, or any other form or sold for profit. Reproduction or retransmission of any materials, in whole or in part, in any manner, is not permitted. All graphics/images/clipart etc. used on the activities or games are not my own and are from various internet sources.

Questions that can be used for a worksheet:

If Christ is at work in our lives, transforming us from the inside out, how can we not keep from sharing that with others?

What’s the difference between merely evangelizing and making disciples?

What opportunities do you have as a student to make disciples right now?

What characteristics do disciple-makers have?

How will you commit to starting the process of making disciples today?

What was the mission Jesus gave his disciples?

What does it mean to make disciples?

Are there any better ways to spread the gospel than making disciples?

Why is baptism important?

What must we teach and how can we teach it?

What promise did Jesus give his disciples/apostles?

How do we, ourselves, follow these instructions?

What is included in “everything that I have commanded you”?

In v20, Jesus says “remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Does this statement apply to the individuals who were there, or more widely? Does it apply to us, do we think? Again, why?

How do the eleven respond to Jesus when they see him on the mountain?

What did Jesus mean when He said all authority had been given to Him? Who gave Him that authority?

Read Matthew 28:19–20. Then break down these verses into a list of things that Jesus told His disciples to do.

Jesus Ascends- A fun craft that gives a hands-on experience of Jesus disappearing in the cloud as He did so long ago. (Crafts from your favorite Bible Stories by Kathy Ross, page 60 & 61).

Jesus’ Ascension into Heaven- Bible Story Wheel (Bible Wheels to Make and Enjoy by Carmen Sorvillo, page 61 & 62.)

Games

Case of the Missing Person (Jesus Returns to Heaven)- In this game, kids will try to figure out who’s missing from the class. They’ll get an idea of how some people must have felt after Jesus returned to heaven. (The Encyclopedia of Bible Games for Children’s Ministry by Group Publishing, page 104.) Go to Table of Contents and click on page 104.

Play the game “Telephone” (use an empty cardboard paper towel roll). Start with today’s memory verse, then let the kids think of other Scriptures to pass around the circle. Talk about how we can share God’s Word with others.

Introduce game: He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15

Pack Your Bag

Directions: This is a memory game. Have the players seated in a circle. The first player begins by saying, "I’m going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature and in my bag I packed ..........." He can say anything he likes, for example an orange, a pair of shoes, a telephone, or a pet dog. The next player in line begins the same way but adds a second object after repeating the first. The third player also begins, “I’m going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature and in my bag I packed ..........." He must repeat the first two objects and then add a third. So it goes on, but if a player can’t repeat or mixes up the order of the objects then he is out.

If you haven't got many players, the same children can keep adding more items. The game continues until one player remains or until time is up. Some lists get very long and are remembered for years by the players. A variation is to decide that the objects chosen must start with the letters of the alphabet in order, for example "apple, bat, cake...zebra." This makes it a little easier to remember. (You could also help the player if necessary so everyone can play). Or you can call on a student and ask them to name something that starts with the letter A that they would bring if they were going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Go around the circle and use each letter of the alphabet. Have the students name an object that they would put in their suitcase if they were going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.

Introduce games- Jesus told the disciples that they would be able to proclaim the gospel to every creature in the world. He told them that “they will speak new languages”. Let’s see if you can listen and understand a new language.

bobblesworldesl.com- Handkerchief Race: Make foreign language flash cards (2 of each word). Pass out all the cards to the students who are sitting in a group (or maybe in a circle). The teacher holds a handkerchief up and then calls out a card. The two students who have that card stand up and try to get to the handkerchief first. (You can also just have the students race to a finish line and the first one over the line wins.)

What Does This Word Mean?

Have a list of foreign words and their meanings. Divide the class into teams. Say a word from your list and ask one team what the word means. You can also write the word on the board. If Team #1 is correct, they get a point. If they are not correct, Team #2 may try. If Team #2 is correct they get a point. The team with the highest score wins.

Introduce game: What does a shepherd do? What happens if one lamb is missing?

What Lamb Is Missing?

Need: Nothing

Directions: Students sit in a group on the floor. One student is “It” and must turn around and hide their eyes. Another student is picked by the teacher and they go outside of the room. “It” then must guess what lamb is missing. Whoever was the lost lamb is now “It”.

The Lost Sheep Hide and Seek- A great activity game to go with the Bible story. (Super Bible Game Book by Linda Standke, page 146 for game piece and page 146 for directions).

Herding Sheep Game

Need: Balloons and a staff

Pick one student and have them stand beside you in front of the class. Place an empty box on its side at the opposite end of the room.

Say: Let's practice being shepherds. First we need some sheep. Let's pretend these are sheep. (Put 1 balloon on the floor in front of the student). Here is your shepherd's staff (hand student a staff). Take your staff and herd your sheep into the pen (the empty box turned on its side). Hold your staff pointing down so no one gets poked, and be careful you don't hurt your sheep. Guide it gently – don’t push it from behind, but stand in front of it and coax it along. (Encourage student as they guide their sheep.)

Say: This is not a race, we just want each person to have a turn. When you get your sheep in the pen, pick it up and walk back to me and give me the staff and the sheep.

When each student has had a turn, ask the following questions:

Was it easy to make your sheep go where you wanted them to go?
• Do you think it's easy for shepherds to get sheep to go where the shepherds want them to go? Why or why not?
• It's hard to make balloons go where we want them to go, and it's even harder to take care of sheep because they sometimes run away or get lost.
• Do you remember our story from today?
• Who did it say is our shepherd? (The Lord, Jesus)
• Who are the sheep? (us)

Say: Jesus is our Good Shepherd, so when we follow him, we won't ever get lost.
• What are some things that kids your age might do to get “lost” and not follow Jesus? (not go to CCD or Mass, be unkind to family/friends, disobey parents, etc.)
• Why was the shepherd happy when he found the sheep? Why might he have been angry? Which is the more human reaction?

Say: We are all like sheep. There are so many things in the world that can ‘eat us up' if we get lost and if we don't have a good shepherd watching over us. Jesus is our good shepherd, so we will follow him.
• Do you think that Jesus is happy when we choose to follow him? Why or why not?
