Games
Case of the Missing Person (Jesus Returns to Heaven)- In this game, kids will try to figure out who’s missing from the class. They’ll get an idea of how some people must have felt after Jesus returned to heaven. (The Encyclopedia of Bible Games for Children’s Ministry by Group Publishing, page 104.) Go to Table of Contents and click on page 104.
Play the game “Telephone” (use an empty cardboard paper towel roll). Start with today’s memory verse, then let the kids think of other Scriptures to pass around the circle. Talk about how we can share God’s Word with others.
Introduce game: He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
Pack Your Bag
Directions: This is a memory game. Have the players seated in a circle. The first player begins by saying, "I’m going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature and in my bag I packed ..........." He can say anything he likes, for example an orange, a pair of shoes, a telephone, or a pet dog. The next player in line begins the same way but adds a second object after repeating the first. The third player also begins, “I’m going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature and in my bag I packed ..........." He must repeat the first two objects and then add a third. So it goes on, but if a player can’t repeat or mixes up the order of the objects then he is out.
If you haven't got many players, the same children can keep adding more items. The game continues until one player remains or until time is up. Some lists get very long and are remembered for years by the players. A variation is to decide that the objects chosen must start with the letters of the alphabet in order, for example "apple, bat, cake...zebra." This makes it a little easier to remember. (You could also help the player if necessary so everyone can play). Or you can call on a student and ask them to name something that starts with the letter A that they would bring if they were going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Go around the circle and use each letter of the alphabet. Have the students name an object that they would put in their suitcase if they were going into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.

"Go and Tell"- A game where participants act as evangelists, "going into the world" to share "the gospel" with others in a fun, creative way, like a charades or Pictionary-style game where they must act out or draw scenes from the Bible.
Introduce games- Jesus told the disciples that they would be able to proclaim the gospel to every creature in the world. He told them that “they will speak new languages”. Let’s see if you can listen and understand a new language.
bobblesworldesl.com- Handkerchief Race: Make foreign language flash cards (2 of each word). Pass out all the cards to the students who are sitting in a group (or maybe in a circle). The teacher holds a handkerchief up and then calls out a card. The two students who have that card stand up and try to get to the handkerchief first. (You can also just have the students race to a finish line and the first one over the line wins.)
What Does This Word Mean?
Have a list of foreign words and their meanings. Divide the class into teams. Say a word from your list and ask one team what the word means. You can also write the word on the board. If Team #1 is correct, they get a point. If they are not correct, Team #2 may try. If Team #2 is correct they get a point. The team with the highest score wins.

Questions on the passage's authenticity
A central question for scholars is whether verses 16:9–20, also known as the "Longer Ending of Mark," were part of the original Gospel.
• Was this section a later addition? The earliest and most reliable manuscripts of Mark's Gospel conclude at 16:8. The verses from 9–20 are not found in these manuscripts, and many modern Bible translations include a note explaining this. The vocabulary and style of verses 9–20 also differ from the rest of Mark's Gospel.
• Why would a later scribe add it? Scholars believe a later scribe, uncomfortable with the original, abrupt ending at verse 8, added a more conclusive summary of the post-resurrection appearances and the ascension to provide a more "satisfying" conclusion.
• Is it inspired scripture? For many Christians, particularly Catholics, the passage is considered part of the inspired canon of scripture, while some Protestants may regard it as a later appendix of lesser authority.
Questions on the "signs"
The passage promises that certain signs will accompany believers, leading to specific theological questions.
• Are these miraculous signs for all Christians throughout all time? Jesus promises that believers will cast out demons, speak in new tongues, handle snakes, and drink deadly poison without harm. Some Christians believe these signs are for all believers, while most understand them as a special empowerment for the early apostles to authenticate their message.
• What does it mean to speak in "new tongues"? This sign has been interpreted in different ways, from speaking unlearned foreign languages (as seen in the book of Acts) to the ecstatic spiritual utterance known as glossolalia.
• How does this passage relate to modern "snake handling" practices? This verse has been used by some Pentecostal groups to justify the dangerous practice of handling venomous snakes. The question is whether such practices are a valid expression of faith or a dangerous misinterpretation of scripture.
Questions on the Great Commission and its application
Verse 15, "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation," is central to the Christian missionary call.
• How do believers today fulfill the Great Commission? Is the command to "go" a literal requirement for all believers, or can it be fulfilled through financial support, prayer, and local outreach? How does modern technology affect evangelism?
• Who is included in "the whole creation"? The passage commands believers to proclaim the gospel to "all creation" or "every creature." This prompts questions about the scope of Christian mission, whether it is for all humanity or even beyond.
• What is the relationship between belief, baptism, and condemnation? The verse states, "The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned". This raises questions about the necessity of baptism for salvation and the fate of those who never hear the Gospel.
Questions on Jesus's ascension
The passage's depiction of Jesus being "taken up into heaven" is also a point of discussion.
• What is the significance of Jesus's enthronement? The text states that Jesus was received into heaven and "sat down at the right hand of God". This imagery indicates his reign and authority over all creation, but prompts questions about how his heavenly rule interacts with earthly events and the lives of believers.
• What is the meaning of his ongoing presence? Despite ascending to heaven, verse 20 emphasizes that the Lord "worked with them" as they preached. This raises questions about how Jesus remains present and active in the lives of believers and the work of the Church.
