Questions on Jesus' actions (John 2:13–17)
• What is the difference between Jesus' anger in this passage and human anger? Was Jesus' anger justifiable, and if so, when is it acceptable for us to be angry?
• Jesus created a whip of cords to drive out the animals but was not physically violent toward the people. What does this detail reveal about Jesus' character and purpose?
• What were the money-changers and animal sellers doing in the temple courts, and why was their activity so corrupt that it provoked Jesus' forceful reaction?
• Jesus said, "Stop making my Father's house a marketplace" (John 2:16). How might this story challenge us to consider the ways commercialism or other distractions can interfere with genuine worship today?

Questions on Jesus' prophecy (John 2:18–22)
• When the Jewish leaders asked for a sign of his authority, Jesus replied, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up" (John 2:19). Why did they completely misunderstand his answer?
• The text explicitly states that Jesus was speaking about the "temple of his body" (John 2:21). What is the significance of Jesus fulfilling the role of the temple?
• The disciples only understood Jesus' words about the temple after his resurrection (John 2:22). What does this reveal about the nature of divine revelation and faith?
• John places the temple cleansing at the beginning of Jesus' ministry, while the other Gospels place it at the end. What might be the theological significance of John's placement?

Questions on Jesus' knowledge of humanity (John 2:23–25)
• Many people in Jerusalem "believed in his name because they saw the signs he was doing" (John 2:23). Why did Jesus not "entrust himself to them" (John 2:24)?
• Jesus "knew what was in each person" (John 2:25). What does this statement reveal about Jesus' divine nature and his understanding of human motives and belief?
• How can we distinguish between the "belief" of the crowds in this passage and the kind of deep, saving faith Jesus desires?
• What does Jesus' reluctance to trust the crowd teach us about following a leader based on spectacle versus on genuine conviction?
