Lesson Plan- Breakfast by the Lake (1st grade on up)
Breakfast by the Lake
Objectives: The students will be able to
- retell the story Breakfast by the Lake
- discuss that Jesus was seen by his disciples after his resurrection
- locate Jerusalem and Lake Galilee on a map
- identify who Jesus wanted to take care of His followers
Review:
Prayer, questions and vocabulary words from last week’s lesson
Vocabulary Words: (Write the words on the board and discuss with class)
Jerusalem- the capital of Israel and holy city of the Jews (show students this on a map or have one of the students find it on a map).
Lake Galilee- Israel’s largest freshwater lake. Much of the ministry of Jesus happened on the shores of Lake Galilee (show students this on a map and have the students find it on a map).
Plan:
Read story "Breakfast by the Lake" and then ask questions
Activities:
Introduce activities: Was Jesus seen by his disciples after his resurrection? Discuss with the students when and where they saw Jesus.

Magic Fish-in-the-Ocean Puppet- A cute craft that the fish actually swims and comes to the surface. (Crafts From Your Favorite Fairy Tales by Kathy Ross, page 38 & 39).
Japanese Wind Sock- (Create a unique "kite") the traditional Japanese carp windsock. (The Picture Book of Kids' Crafts and Activities by Roxanne Henderson, page 178 & 179).

Flying Fish Relay- (Players frantically fan their fish across the room into a plate.) A paper plate is positioned across the room. Players lay their fish on the floor and when they are told to “GO!” they fan their fish with a magazine across the room into the plate. The first player to get their fish on the plate is the winner. If it is a team relay race, the first team with all the player’s fish on their plate is the winner.
The Catholic Toolbox- Disciples Memory Game or Go Fish Game
A fun way to review the names of the disciples. Remove the Judas cards and play one of these games.
*You can also play Old Maid using these cards. Have Judas be the “Old Maid” card. Show the children the “Judas” card and put in the middle of the table for all to see. Put the other Judas card in the deck and shuffle the cards.

The Catholic Toolbox- Breakfast By The Lake (file folder game) In this game players must answer correctly questions about the Bible story to receive a fish to put on their plate. Be careful not to eat all your fish and have to put all of your fish back. The player that reaches FINISH with the most fish on their plate wins.
Snacks:
Introduce snack: Jesus cooked his disciples breakfast. Let’s cook ourselves some breakfast.
Have the students cook themselves an easy breakfast.

Introduce snack: What were the disciples doing when Jesus called out to them? Fishing from their boat.
