The Catholic Toolbox- Back Talk Game
The object of this game is for the children to honor their parent’s requests in the proper way. Print out the three sets of cards. One set is what a parent would say to their child (these cards are in red). Another set is a disrespectful response from a child to the parent. Another set of cards is what the child should say to their parent. Shuffle the cards and deal them completely out. Have the players put their cards face up in from of them so that others can see and read their cards and help them if necessary. By taking turns, have one player start with what a parent would say and read it out loud. After they have read the card, they place it in the middle of the table face up. The rest of the players then check their cards to see if they have one that says what a disrespectful child would say to their parent in response in this situation. If they have the card, they read it out loud and place it face up next to the first card. Then the players look at their cards to see if they have what a child should say to their parent. If they have the card, they read it out loud and place it face up next to the second card. Players can also play in teams so they can help each other answer the questions.

Questions about obedience vs. words
• Which of the two sons in the parable would you say was more obedient to the father, and why?
• What does this story suggest about the difference between talking about one's faith and actually living it out?
• How might we, like the second son, say "yes" to God but then fail to follow through with our actions?
• Can you think of a time when your actions were not in line with your promises, either to God or to others?

Questions about repentance and change
• The first son had a change of heart, which the Greek word often translates to "repented". How does this parable illustrate the nature of true repentance?
• How can this parable offer hope to people who have initially rejected God but later decide to turn to him?
• Why do you think the religious leaders refused to repent and believe even after they saw tax collectors and prostitutes doing so?

Questions about hypocrisy
• Jesus's comparison of the religious leaders to the second, disobedient son was meant to expose their hypocrisy. How can we guard against religious hypocrisy in our own lives?
• The religious leaders saw themselves as the "good" son. In what ways can self-righteousness blind us to our own need for repentance?
• Why might someone who appears righteous on the outside (like the second son) find it harder to enter the kingdom of heaven than someone considered a public sinner (like the first son)?

Questions about context and application
• Why was Jesus telling this parable to the chief priests and elders in the temple? What had just happened before this account?
• Jesus says that "tax collectors and prostitutes" would enter the kingdom of God before the religious leaders. Why were those two groups specifically used as examples?
• In what ways is the vineyard in the parable symbolic of God's kingdom and the work believers are called to do?
