Observation Questions
These questions focus on establishing the facts of the narrative:
• The Setting: Where was Jesus when this encounter took place, and where was he headed?
• The Titles: What specific titles did Bartimaeus use to address Jesus?
• The Crowd: How did the people around Bartimaeus react to his shouting, and how did they change once Jesus called for him?
• The Action: What did Bartimaeus do with his cloak before approaching Jesus?
• The Result: What happened immediately after Bartimaeus received his sight?

Interpretation Questions
These questions delve into the deeper meaning of the passage:
• Spiritual Sight: How did Bartimaeus "see" Jesus' identity as the Messiah while being physically blind, and how does this contrast with the disciples in the surrounding chapters?
• Messianic Significance: What is the significance of the title "Son of David" in light of Old Testament prophecy?
• The Cloak: What might "throwing off the cloak" symbolize regarding a person's old life or former dependencies?
• The Repeated Question: Jesus asks Bartimaeus the same question he recently asked James and John (Mark 10:36). How do their answers differ?
• Defining Faith: Why does Jesus credit Bartimaeus' faith for his healing rather than just his own power?

Application Questions
These questions encourage personal reflection on the text:
• The Cry for Mercy: If Jesus asked you today, "What do you want me to do for you?", how would you answer?
• Overcoming Obstacles: Have you ever felt "rebuked" or silenced by others when trying to pursue God? How can you persist like Bartimaeus?
• Following on the Way: In what areas of your life are you currently "following Jesus on the way," and what "cloaks" might you still need to leave behind?
• Identifying with the Crowd: Can you think of a time when you might have been like the crowd—dismissing someone's needs because they were inconvenient or "loud"?
