Introduction to games: Jesus said, “Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:36

Everyone goes through good times and bad times. It matters how you handle them. Let’s see how well you can handle the hardships that are thrown at you.

Stand Up, Sit Down

Materials: Index cards

Directions: On the index cards print on each one a hardship that could happen during someone’s lifetime (make them age appropriate). (You can also have each student write up some on index cards). Divide the classroom into two teams. Ask one person from team #1 a hardship and they must come up with a solution. If it is a good answer, they stand up. If it is not, they stay seated. Ask one person from team #2 a question, etc. The game continues from one team to another. When all have been asked a question, go through the team players again in order. If the player standing continues to come up with a good solution to the hardship, they remain standing. If they do not, they have to sit down. Each time a player answers correctly, their team receives a point. The highest team score wins.

Last Man Standing

Materials: empty 2 liter soda bottles, one small ball, white paper, glue, crayons, masking tape or chalk

Directions: Have students sitting at several tables and have them draw a person on a piece of paper and color it (one person per group and done as a group project). Students then cut the person out and glue each one on a 2-liter bottle. Place people bottles like bowling pins against a wall. Draw a line with chalk or use masking tape to make a line that the students must bowl behind. Divide the classroom into 2 teams. Have one line for each team behind the line; the students stand behind one another in a long line with their team. One student at a time will roll a small ball at the people bottles to see if they can handle the hardships that are thrown at them. Each student gets one roll then goes to the end of their team line. Tally how many people bottles they knock down for their team. The highest team score wins.
